NAPPA/LEATHER
The steps to clean this type of skin are:
1) In general, it is important that before and after using your leather shoes you wipe them with a damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt that may remain. Do it gently, without pressing and paying special attention to the seams, an area where more dirt can accumulate. This practice will help you keep your skin or leather always looking new.
2) Once the shoe has dried after having wiped it with a damp cloth, apply wax, moisturizing cream or special oil for leather shoes. With this you will help hydrate and give shine to the skin, which will look more beautiful. Currently there are many brands on the market that offer this type of products, so you can find them in any supermarket or drugstore.
Tip : Rub with a soft sponge and natural colorless cream.
SUEDE/NOBUCK/SUEDE:
The steps to clean this type of skin are:
- Use an eraser for tough scuffs or stains. There are specific ones for suede in specialized stores but you can also use an elastic band like the ones you used at school.
- Clean shoes with soapy water. Make the mixture and apply it to the skin with a soft brush until you get a dense foam.
- Rinse the foam with warm water with the help of the brush that we have previously cleaned, this way we will remove all the remaining dirt.
- Remove excess water from the skin with a dry towel and let the shoes dry away from direct rays of the sun or heat sources.
- When they are completely dry, use a special metal bristle brush for suede. You will see how it has a life of its own again.
- Apply a suede protective spray. Remember that “prevention is better than cure.”
- When they are completely dry , brush again with the hard bristle brush to recover the original texture of the skin.
Eye!! Don't even think about giving it any type of cream, so you will always maintain its "plush" finish.
Tip : you can use a dust repellent spray, like the one you use at home for the mop.
VELVET
Velvet is one of the most delicate materials that exist. Below we give you the guidelines for a perfect cleaning :
- The first thing you should do to clean your velvet shoes is take a soft-bristled brush and brush carefully and without pressing the shoe, paying special attention to the stains. Always brush in the direction of the velvet fabric.
- Take an empty plastic bottle larger than 1 liter and mix 1 tablespoon of detergent with 1 liter of warm water. The water cannot be hot because it would damage the velvet. Shake the bottle well to create lots of foam. When the maximum foam possible has been produced, put a little foam on the soft bristles of the brush (just the foam) and very gently rub the stains, in favor of velvet, without pressing. Then, with a clean cloth, remove any remaining foam from the shoe and let it dry.
- If your velvet shoes have been stained with grease or some type of food, you can try cleaning them with alcohol. Take a container, fill it with water and add a little alcohol. Use the traditional alcohol that we keep in medicine cabinets to heal wounds, a more aggressive one would damage the velvet fabric. Mix well and moisten a soft sponge. It is very important that the sponge is not abrasive so as not to damage the shoe. Squeeze the sponge well so as not to wet the shoes excessively and rub the stains very gently, without pressing. Rinse the sponge several times to clean it and leave the dirt in the water. Using a clean cloth, remove any remaining solution and let the velvet shoe dry.
- If you have the opportunity to clean the stain immediately after it occurs, cover it with talcum powder and let it sit for 1 day or even two. After this time, perform step 3 to remove stains from your velvet shoes if there are still traces left.
Leather waterproofer to protect against water and stains
Leather waterproofing is your shoes' best friend, as it combats external agents.
What type of product is it and what is it used for? It is a type of lacquer that serves to protect footwear from water and stains, that is, to waterproof it. Although leather is waterproof, leather waterproofing adds special and necessary care to your shoes.
Leather waterproofing, especially recommended for velvet:
Velvety leathers, due to their delicacy, need a leather waterproofing agent that protects them more than other leathers. It is always a good idea to remove dust before waterproofing. It is also advisable to apply the product before wearing your shoes. The most common leather waterproofing is in a spray, although you can also find it in varnish or oil.
How to use leather waterproofer:
The leather waterproofing spray has the advantage that it allows the product to be distributed over the entire surface of the shoes. The best way to waterproof is to spray from an average distance of about 25 or 30 centimeters, neither closer nor further, so that there are no stains. It is also important to prevent drops from forming. Simply use the leather waterproofer once a week for adequate protection.
We hope we have been of help to you in keeping your footwear impeccable. Just a few minutes of dedication and your shoes will always look like new.
